One was on the blue tag attached to the case. It will look like a simple punched dot like this (. Can't believe two incorrect dates listed on CMP paper work. After NPMs very early carbines they would stamp a Punch Mark as their Proof firing mark near the barrel makers stamped P Proof stamp. Serial number lookup indicates rifle was manufactured in April 1944. The operating rod is marked IHC and the bolt and trigger group SA.Īre there any Garand barrels that don't have a date stamp? On the right side of the barrel about 2 inches forward of the throat is a Z The barrel, 4+ TE and 0 ME looks very good, but with no date markings., only what I understand as drawing numbers located on the top of the barrel beginning about 3 inches forward of the throat whic are D 35448-35-Y-225-B M. The stock appears to have not been used in combat as there are a few scratches and a few dented places, but overall makes me think it could have been used only in training with a minimum of handling. One note in the package said SA-6/45 and another stated Dec 1943 which I haven't resolved yet but can. I ordered a service grade M1 Garand this past summer and got a SA in very good condition.
